The mixedrealitylab (Professorship of Human-Computer Interaction in the Internet of Things) at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Coburg University was established October 2016 and is headed by Professor Dr. Jens Grubert.

Our research focuses on interaction with multimodal Mixed Reality (Augmented and Virtual Reality), Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Graphics, Information Visualization in AR and VR as well as Computer Vision.

2022-05-21: Jens Grubert joins the Editorial Board of IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics as asssociate editor.

2022-02-03: Our work Towards Open-Source Web-Based 3D Reconstruction for Non-Professionals is available as open-access article in Frontiers in Virtual Reality.
2021-10-06: Our work Accuracy Evaluation of Touch Tasks in Commodity Virtual and Augmented Reality Head-Mounted Displays was accepted to ACM SUI 2021.
2021-10-04: Thanks to all attendees of our workshop on Replication in Extended Reality at IEEE ISMAR 2021. A video recording of the workshop can be found on YouTube.
2021-05-22: We received a notification about one million Euro funding for the project High Performance Computing for Applied Artificial Intelligence for establishing a High Performance Computing Cluster.
2021-05-20: Together with Experts from Aalborg University and Mississippi State University we will hold a workshop in Replication in Extended Reality at IEEE ISMAR 2021.
2021-02-16: We received funding for the project 5G-assisted autonomous vehicles for public transport in rural areas. Our lab contributes methods for telemonitoring and -operation of autonomous car using multimodal virtual reality.
2020-11-11: Together with experts from bioanalytics, environmental chemistry, building physics and monument preservation we received a funding notification for the project OMiBiB - Optimization and minimization of biocide use in building materials. Our lab will contribute 3D reconstruction methods aimed at non-professional users as well as an integration of 3D reconstruction and multimodal sensor data in a mixed reality environment.
2020-11-10: We received a funding notification for our project MR4MobileWork - Multimodal Mixed Reality for mobile knowledge workers, by the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and Arts. Based on methods from computer vision and machine learning, we will investigate hybrid touch, gaze and in-air interaction techniques for supporting mobile knowledge work.
2020-11-09: This week, we will present our TVCG journal paper Breaking the Screen: Interaction Across Touchscreen Boundaries in Virtual Reality for Mobile Knowledge Workers and the conference paper Pen-based Interaction with Spreadsheets in Mobile Virtual Reality at IEEE ISMAR 2020.
2020-10-15: With support of Virtuelle Hochschule Bayern, we have created 27 blended learning units about Computer Vision.
2020-09-01: Our work on Pen-based Interaction with Spreadsheets in Mobile Virtual Reality was covered by VentureBeat and Mixed.de.
2020-03-24: Our publications Above Surface Interaction for Multiscale Navigation in Mobile Virtual Reality and Accuracy of Commodity Finger Tracking Systems for Virtual Reality Head-Mounted Displays were presented at IEEE VR 2020.
2019-10-17: Our TVCG journal paper ReconViguRation: Reconfiguring Physical Keyboards in Virtual Reality received the best paper award at IEEE ISMAR 2019.
2019-10-10: Our paper Effects of Depth Layer Switching between an Optical See-Through Head-Mounted Display and a Body-Proximate Display will be presented at ACM SUI 2019.
2019-10-10: We will present our journal paper ReconViguRation: Reconfiguring Physical Keyboards in Virtual Reality and poster paper Evaluating Text Entry in Virtual Reality using a Touch-sensitive Physical Keyboard at IEEE ISMAR 2019.
2019-04-10: Our group got the paper Augmentation not Duplication: Considerations for the Design of Digitally-Augmented Comic Books accepted at ACM CHI 2019.
2018-03-23: Our group presents three publications (one workshop paper, one poster, one demo) at IEEE VR 2019 on text entry using touch-sensitive physical keyboards in VR.
2019-03-15: The IT-Forum Upper Frankonia 2019, organized by Prof. Dr. Jens Grubert, brought together over 200 guests interested in synergies between design and information technology.
2018-02-05: How to type in Virtual Reality? Two publications at IEEE VR 2018 address this issue.
